Ron Finley’s food forest…is an inspiration!!!!!
“This film tells the story of a South Los Angeles edible garden planted in a surprising spot. Ron Finley, its planter, constructed the garden the way he wishes his neighborhood could be. And his vision of re-purposing unused open space, like that of many others working together on urban agriculture in our city, should inspire us all, and remind us of how, with a little creativity of vision, and willingness to get our hands dirty, we can remake spaces defined by asphalt and dead grass into productive places of beauty.”

ALOHA…it’s time to start updating this website/blog!!!
My gratitude to everyone who visits this site. Updates and new posts are coming!! We moved to Hawaii in the last few months, to start growing a food forest and adventure around these food forested islands. We can’t wait to share the tropical adventures!!! We’ll still be filming updates from the food forest in Utah also…both locations should be fun to share…as the food forests grow!!!
Cheers to our food forests!!! Let’s grow them everywhere!!!
Take a look at the video below: our first glimpse..at a noni/coconut/mango…food forest.
We’re taking our food forest adventures…to Big Island, Hawaii. It’s time to learn tropical permaculture/herbalism…and play/work in this climate zone…with my friend and partner Patricia!!! We’ve been like two kids with new eyes…experiencing all this tropical plant/soil life…and wanted to share it with you!!
Seeing a tropical food forest..in full production..and the soil creating it..is quite a special experience!! Noni plants are growing in the sub story..and mango is in the middle. Coconuts are the canopy. It’s ammmazing to see this kind of food available for all to witness…and just growing on its own!!!!
The soil is made up of mostly volcanic stone of all sizes. In between all that volcanic sediment…is black humus rich soil!!!! You can see in the video..the layers of organic matter creating this black gold. The coconut husks…palm frawns..and other leafy matter..are breaking down into a beautiful top layer of soil…that is creating a self producing food forest.
More island adventures coming up!!!! Aloha!! Mahalo Pele!! Mahalo Patricia!!!
Pure Natural Occurring Soil Bacteria…JOY!!!!

Ali is one of my heroes!!! She’s been growing her own food for quite a few decades now…and she’s doing it all organically….and beyond!! No chemicals…..!!!!
Here’s some…of what Ali is growing on a tiny 1/4 acre: 48 fruit trees, 3 of them are nuts. Aside from the fruit trees, there are: 17 grape vines, a boysenberry patch, raspberry patch and triple crown
blackberry patch, ohhh…and 5 Strawberry patches all different varieties.
There’s also a large asparagus patch and a currant patch…and so many veggies you can’t count..! SOOOO INSPIRING!!!! She also keeps bees…so they can tend to the flowers.
The coolest part in my opinion?? She’s sharing HOW…to do this for ourselves!! Ali offers FREE CLASSES!! Check out her website for more info. My gardening hat is off….in deep gratitude for all she shares! Thank you Ali!!!!
Come take a peek at her little patch of paradise. These photos were taken a few days ago…as fall began creeping into our southern Utah valleys. The videos at the bottom of this post, were taken in spring. Thanks for the tour Ali…and thanks for sharing SO much info…and passion…with the world!!
For those interested, Ali offers some of the best gardening goodies in southern Utah. Heirloom seeds, rocks dusts, kelp, mychorrhizal fungi, plant starts, and tools of all types….THE GOODS!!
