Thanks a bunch for the info Jake, it's much appreciated. "deeply and infrequently" is not what I've been doing. I've been giving them a short drink in the am and then another little drink in the pm, so I'm going to be changing that. I will also get me some of that hay as well.
Thanks again
Drew

Hey drew...

I do have an opinion on watering...

Get drips...and mulch with straw...maybe a couple inches thick. This will retain the moisture in the soil...and will cut back the water in a.. BIG way. It will also keeps the soil life and cylces more stable.

You may still need to water the beds..from time to time...but do this in the morning or evening...completely saturating the beds...through the mulch layer...until the water comes out the bottom of the raised beds or container. I've noticed I only need to do this every week or so...cause the drips keep the beds nice and moist in the mean time. If you don't have drips...still do the mulch layer...and water "deeply and infrequently"...completely soaking the raised bed or container...until water comes out the base. When you do this.. may vary on your climate zone, mulch layers, and if you have drips etc.

I think one of the keys for sure...is...if you're watering on your own...without drips, just make sure the soil has dried out a couple of inches on the top, and water in the morning or evening. This gives the plant a nice chance to soak up nutrients before the sun zaps everything..and then gives the soil time dry out evenly before the next watering.

Oh...and did I mention STRAW MULCH..haha...I love the stuff!!

Happy growing Drew.. Hit me up anytime
